it is sad, i spent many summer holidays there when i was a kid :(

yes fond memories there, and what a shock for the locals, I think the holiday trade will really suffer now, even in the short term I can see people not being able to use the beach or sea anywhere near due to risk of injury or even pollution from all that ash etc.

And the long term ....will it ever be cost effective to rebuild esp in such financially unstable times??

Living in the Midlands, its a favourite seaside town being just an hour or so down the M5.
And only last week my daughter was there for T4 on the beach.

The building on the pier has been completely distroyed, but the pier itself seems to be intact. Hopefully, the insurance money will pay for a complete restoration
