Does anyone have a proper reference for the following phrase "Measure what is measurable, and make measurable what is not so" attributed to Galileo?
Thanks a lot

erm dont know about Galileo.

however in an emergency - like no-0one else answers, you could use,

Door meten tot weten - Kammerlingh

[Through measuring to knowing] - Dutch by the way.

It's quoted in a lot of web-sites - I checked ten or so - but not with the book or letter he wrote it in.  Here are two semi-helpful extracts.

IN 1610, GALILEO GALILEI SAID, WE MUST measure what can be measured, and make measurable what cannot be measured.

Galilei, Galileo (1564 - 1642)
Measure what is measurable, and make measurable what is not so.
Quoted in H. Weyl "Mathematics and the Laws of Nature" in I Gordon and S. Sorkin (eds.) The Armchair Science Reader, New York: Simon and Schuster, 1959.
