I think it's just be who you are your friend choose you to be her Maid of Hounour for who you are nothing else.
I know you want to look nice for the day but don't beat yourself up over it.
You are who you are, be the real person and enjoy being there for your firend.

hardly constructive advice noknowledge.
I would not bother with slimfast, it will only have you obsessing about real food, change your eating habits to eating whole foods that are not processed, lean meat and vegetables, plenty of fruit and try and be a bit more active.
dont eat take aways or junk, they are a one way ticket to weight gain, treat yourself to a small treat every so often
all things in moderation is the key, slow weight loss is more likely to stick than going on a starvation/fad diet

I lost three stone in three months with slimfast. I had never really dieted before, and this was the easiest option as I hate most food other than take aways and junk food! I had the strawberry shakes for breakfast (the ready made up ones, the powder stuff tastes like cement) a slimfast chocolate caramel snack for mid morning, shake or meal bars (chocolate!) for lunch, snack bar mid afternoon, sensible meal (chicken/mccains microchips veg) for tea and another snack bar for evening snack. Drink lots of water and the weight falls off, you don't feel hungry because you get to snack between meals and although I spent most of the time clockwatching waiting for the next snack it felt good every time I got on the scales. I worked on about 1200 calories per day, although didn't really count them exactly. You can even have things like a McDonalds, and provided you cut out one or two of the snacks the same day then this counts as your main meal.
Change simple things about your diet, like go for skimmed milk instead of whole milk, wholemeal instead of white, reduce carbs and eat plenty of lean meats and fresh fruit and veg. Drink a large glass of water before every meal and another after and replace one meal with a low calorie soup and the weight will fall off you and you won't even notice you're on a diet. My ex was an actress and that's what they used to do when they needed to lose weight fast.
