Are people allowed to have chimps as pets here (UK)...and if we are where can I get one? I know it sounds weird...but they just look so cute.

don't be so stupid pheebster!!!!!
I'm praying that your post is a wind up (or you're very young), surely no adult could be soooo dumb?? If I found out about anyone keeping a chimp as a pet I'd report them immediately. They are wild animals, and even the way you phrase your question (I want one cos they're cute) shows your complete lack of knowledge of these beautiful creatures.
In a Pickle....isn't Monkey Business the most heart breaking yet inspiring programme? It is an outrage that the work they do has to be done at all, but when you see their success stories - scared, abused chimps finally being allowed to be chimps, and find their way in their own world, with their own kind...it's so touching.
Some excellent, true, informative responses ABer's, though I must admit, i'm gonna have to rise to the bait of the question, thepheebster.
You want a chimp "......because they just look so cute.....". Would this be to become good friends with the Teacup Chihuahua you wanted previously "....because Paris Hilton has got one...."?
Also, with reference to your previous questions, if you go and do a Marketing degree at University (possibly by lying on your CV as you advised another ABer to do) you won't be able to keep pets in your halls of residence.
The reason why many people do NOT own a chimp is because they are not suitable pets, and probably don't particularly want to live with humans either. I am also sorry to say that generally speaking those who get an animal just because they think it looks "cute" do not realise what they are getting themselves into, leading to difficult circumstances for the owner, and unfair circumstances for the animal.
Rant over.
All I'm going to say is that Monkeyworld (where Monkey Business is filmed) is very near to where I live. If you knew just a tiny part of the work that Jim and Alison Cronin do to try and educate the public, then this question would never have been asked. The black market trade in these animals is an abomination - and that's putting it mildly.
