error code 769 (help)
6 Answers
i have an old Toshiba lap top running on Window 2000, i have only had it a month or so, i keep it as a back up for my main PC. It originally connected to broadband no problem but i went to use it recently and it keeps coming up ERROR 769, after a bit of research on the web the answer appears to be enable the network card. I have been into device manager and everything is enabled it recognizes the speedtouch modem no problem..What annoys me is i cant think of any reason why this is happening, i have not knowingly altered any settings...Any suggestions would be appreciated

Error 769 The specific destination is not reachable.
Cause: 1. The network card in your computer is not turned on. 2. The dial-up connection is not listed in the 'dial-up' section
From this page:
http://www.chicagotech.net/raserrors.htm#Error %20769%20The%20specific%20destination%20is%20n ot%20reachable.
Could it be something to do with the older machine not seeing the new broadband connection properly?

is it a modem or router?
just a thought ... are you using zone alarm?
If modem ... you don't use the network card.
but you don't say which tosh lappy ...
in 2000 days many lappys didn't have network cards - they used pcmcia
I'm sure you've seen these ... but
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/892889 points at the card
but
http://modemhelp.net/dunerror/error_769.shtml points at the dun
I'd be tempted to
make sure you have the latest drivers then
remove all devices (modem amd ether card) from device manager.
delete the dun
reboot
setup everything from scratch
