Today I received a credit card from Vanquis. I've never heard of them and never applied for a card, I have chopped it up and put it in bin and also written to the company telling them to cancel the account. Should I be worried about this.... does it mean that someone has applied for this card in my name?

I would suspect that is the case.

Ask them for a copy of your signed application form that forms part of the contract.
I was sent one too. I think it was a genuine offer of a card to me but I chopped it up as I didn't need it- particularly as the interest rate was something like 75% APR.
That is a very dangerous game they are playing if that is the case.

I wonder just how enforceable any debt racked up on the card would be having not signed any form of contract

Thanks for your answers its put my mind at rest. Thought someone had applied in my name! They must be mad to send them out when they haven't got a signature or anything! Checked out website and they do seem genuine but as you say interest rates are horrendous. And I don't have a credit problem so why they sent it I really don't know. I saw on another site that lots of people have applied but get refused!

Ok so now I am worried!.... Just received a statement from Vanquis for 400. I have phoned them and I am not liable for payments but someone has applied on the internet and got 400 cash back in my name. Off to CAB now because they could possibly open more accounts in my name. Not good news!
