New shape V W Beetle
Any idea what a cam belt change costs on the new shape Beetle 2.0ltre ,i think its normally done at 60k .

On my own car (Peugeot 806 TD) I have it changed at about every 25, 000 miles or so and last time it cost about �140, the old belt was showing signs of wear even at this mileage. The handbook specifies belt changes every 50.000 miles which I think is a bit excessive.
If the belt snaps an exchange engine (if you can find one)will cost you thousands plus all the work and expense of getting it fitted, and, in my instance, would far exceed the value of the car itself.
The price of a belt change isn't a lot to pay for peace of mind. If there is any doubt whatsoever about the age or condition of the belt on your VW get it changed, and the sooner the better.

I agree with Blackthorn - 60k is a very long time to wait to change a cam belt. The belt will probably be several years old by then and not in good condition. If the belt snaps then you will almost certainly need a replacement engine.
I have a 1984 Golf and I change the cam belt every 3 years - which is about 15 - 20,000 miles. The dealers and the manuals say every 35,000 miles - but it's not their car. For the cost of the change it's worth the peace of mind of knowing the belt is always good.
