Part 3 of the Disability Discrimination Act places a duty on service providers not to discriminate against disabled people by refusing to provide (or deliberately not providing) a service, providing a service of a lower standard or worse quality or on worse terms or failing to take steps which make it impossible or unreasonably difficult for the disabled person to make use of the service.
By providing him with less favourable treatment for reasons related to his disability, failing to make adjustments and failing to provide auxiliary aids the prison authorities are unlawfully discriminating against him whether we like it or not.
A similar case a few years back awarded a prisoner a large cash sum, because he was too overweight and had difficulty climbing stairs because of a heart condition.
Sadly I agree with you, he doesn�t deserve any special treatment, especially for what he has done.
