Another Bird Question! Wren

A wren is living in the swallows nest built last year about our front door in the porch.  I thought the swallows had come back rather early.  Has anyone else a similar story?

Haven't noticed swallows doing so, but the blue tits have been in & out of the nesting boxes for nearly two weeks now!

Hi girls!

I might be able to give you a bit of an idea concerning your Wren FP. Swallows' nests are enclosed and Wrens being very tiny and subject to the cold weather tend to huddle together (only one in your case),sometimes as many as 100 crammed in a nesting box for warmth. Nesting pouches are sold for this very purpose, but you have a readymade abode.

Hi Cetti.  Thanks for your answer.  Perhaps there is more than one wren in there!  Anyway, it always makes me jump when I come in through the front door and the wren/s whiz out of the nest past my head!

Cetti, you are right!  I just went out to give some supper to my night singing robin who was waiting for me outside the back door (8.00.pm)  and I thought I would investigate the front porch swallow's nest.

At least 4 little wren faces popped out!!!

Oh, how wonderful, FP!  Just think if you'd taken those nests down you might have denied these little mites  a cosy roost, and.....you've also saved their lives.

Just hope the squatters vacate before those bossy swallows come back on May bank holiday weekend!
