Fruity Birds??

I had quite a surprise today!
As it happens,I wondered why the cooking apples kept falling off our apple tree. Every time I picked up a few, some of them looked as though something had been eating them.I had to be careful mind,as when I picked up the odd one or two, there were wasps inside.
I thought wasps couldn't devour that much.
Then later on,as I had a cup of tea outside,I noticed two birds were pecking away at the cooking apples.I think they were jackdaws.I didn't know they had an appetite for cooking apples.A bit sour I would have thought!!
Does anyone else know about this?

Hi Imo, hope you're feeling good tonight.

It's not unusual for birds to eat apples. I regularly cut an apple in half and put it out for my regular blackbirds. They love it!

Aah,it certainly took a while for someone to reply to my thread.
Hello Mrs Chappie! How you doing?
I'm feeling really good thanks. What kind of apple do you put out for them.If it's a cooking one, they sure do have a sour taste for them!! Uugh, the best thing for a cooking apple is in a pie. Then,it's yummy!! My mum really does make a smashing pie or crumble.I prefer apple crumbles with either custard or ice cream.Ooo,that sounds nice.
Hi Imo,

I don't specifically buy cooking apples, I put out any that I have in the fruit bowl, and they seem to like any kind.

You've got me fancying an apple pie and custard .......... mmmm ......... might have a go at cooking one myself!
