Who backs who in the investment sector?

Does anyone know of a website please where there is a list of who companies like Bradford & Bingley, Alliance & leicester, The Post Office etc are either owned by or who's investment accounts are underwritten by? I understand that the FSA guarantee which is around �30,000 only applies once if for instance you had money with Abbey, Alliance & Leicester etc and Santander were to go belly up.
