Taking pre-packed meat abroad

Does anybody know if you are allowed to take pre-packed bacon (and other meats) abroad with you?

We are going to Turkey soon and know that the only bacon you get over there is streaky and pre-dominately fat, so we would like to take some good old pre-packed back-bacon rashers.

Ask your local travel agent they ashould have access to all the guidelines of what you can and cannot take into the country you are travelling to

Whenever we went abroad on holiday, I would take in my suitcase rock-solid frozen vacuum packets of bacon. They would gentle thaw during the journey and would go straight into the 'fridge when we got to our holiday accommodation. Would last our holiday for bacon sarnies for breakfast.

Nothing like going abroad and getting to know the local foods and environmnt is there? You are not taking frozen chips as well are you.

It's legal to take it out of the UK

Depending on where you are going it may be illegal to take it in to your destination.

You certainly can't take them to NZ. Actually why would you want to? Surely the main point of going abroad is to enjoy the local food and culture.

By the way, I love my bacon sandwiches but not in the South of France!!

Thanks for your totally useless and unfunny answer qapmoc.

If you've ever ate foreign bacon you'll know that its not the best, so you stick to swigging Carling out of cans in your caravan at Haven.

It was not meant to be funny, my point was why go abroad to expand your horizons etc... and take your standard English food with you.

And as a matter of interest about where I live. If I drive down the road for ten minutes I can get to a beach with palm trees and gold sand and blue calm seas inside a coral reef which at this time of year is our mid winter and its 23 degrees C at the beach today. Got to admit though that I haven't seen a can of carling for a while now, plenty of rum around here though.

There's nothing on the Turkish Customs web site to say you can't. Nothing to say you can either. I suspect they are not worried or it would have been mentioned.

There are two reasons countries ban meat imports - health and religion. The US bans meat imports to prevent the import of agricultural diseases. Saudi Arabia and other moslem countries ban the import of pork and pork products because they find it offensive to their religious beliefs.

Turkey is moslem - though not to the degree some of the arab states are.

Sorry about my comment also, I usually try to resist making desriptions like that in general because we all have to live somewhere. but your caravan comment did make me respond in haste.
Anyway I have to say that living in a picture post card setting is very nice at the weekends and I sure don't miss de-icing the car! but living/working there is not the same as visiting for a week or so and many people who move abroad can't adapt and move back home again.
