Driving without insurance?
Hi,
Today I had a small accident involving another car - I scraped her bumper / wing (no dents, just a scratch). Anyway, I swapped insurance details with them and everything seemed fine.
Then when I got home I sat down and went through everything and noticed a mistake in my insurance - I bought the car for my partners birthday a few years ago and it is registered in her name - unfortunately I've made a mistake and put on the insurance that it was registered in my name (I am fully comp on the insurance).
Will this invalidate my insurance?
If so can I be prosecuted for driving without insurance?!
If so, if I change the car ownership at the DVLA quickly will this help (i.e. before insurance companies get notified ans tart checking things out - will they check out the ownership at all??)

Just a suggestion......as it was only a scratch to her bumper, would it not be an idea to get in touch with her directly and offer to pay cash to get it repaired, if its only a little scratch, probably wont cost much and then you can avoid involving the insurance company and sort it out for the future
First check who is insured to drive the vehicle, ie named drivers / any person with the "OWNERS" consent etc.
IF you are a named driver no problem but unless you partner is included in classes of person entitled to drive,they could be in trouble.
Secondly, did you tell the insurance compay that you "OWNED" the vehicle or were the "Registered Keeper" or both.
As the person who bought the car YOU are the owner unless you have passed title, The name on the registration document (log book) is not always the owner and being named on the registration document does not prove ownership.
Dont try to change the details to get round this, if its a genuine mistake although a technical stumbling block it would be a harsh judge that would convict and a good sollicitor should have no trouble getting round this however if you try to change things on the quiet you imply a certain underhandedness.
but do speak to the insurance company.
