Cornish animal

I am looking for some ideas of any animals which are native specifically to Cornwall, England. Any ideas - I am already aware of the Cornish Chough bird.

Sorry to disappoint you but the chough is NOT native specifically to cornwall. The chough used to be relatively widespread around the coast of the UK, but by the early 19th century its range was contracting westwards to its current strongholds. Changes in livestock management and indiscriminate persecution are thought to be the main reasons.

Conwall is just one of the many sites where it is still found.


And to disappoint you more, cornwall is such a small area that it is doubtful whether there are ANY animals that are native specifically to Cornwall

Cornwall , England? You must be from North America LOL We only know the one Cornwall. America has at least two (one in Vermont and one in New York state). It's a small county, as indicated, and not one which has unique climate or environments such as would bar any animal from existing, evolving or surviving there alone.The lesser white-toothed shrew is only found in Britain on the Isles of Scilly, 28 miles from the Cornish coast, but a) the Isles are administered locally by their own Council, not from Cornwall and so legally are not strictly part of Cornwall and b) this shrew is found elsewhere in Europe. So it seems that there are no animals which are specifically native to Cornwall (even at a stretch of the definitions!) Even the county flower, the Cornish heath (erica vagans) is not exclusive to Cornwall: it's also found in Northern Ireland
