WHats happening in your neck of the woods?

Just back from two weeks in SW Ireland- wild camping, canoeing etc. Not so many bird species there but never seen so many pied wagtails and song thrushes. Spent a lot of evenings playing with my new bat detector. Loads of choughs over there- and they have released white tailed sea-eagles. Highlight had to be a peregrine on the cliffs of Moher- 600ft cliffs! One sat on the cliff fairly close watching- a rock pipit flew by some 50 yards or more away- the peregrine was off and into a stoop in a flash-covered the distance in a second or two and brought back said pipit to its perch. We were entranced by this and on looking around realised that out of the dozens of tourists gawking at the cliffs- noone else had witnessed the drama. Likewise on the ferries- gannets, searwaters, puffins, razorbills and guillemots plus porpoises.......... and no-one else was aware of them...... it does make you wonder.

Not long back from a holiday on the Moray coast. Absolutely wonderful there. I love the countryside and it always amazes me when people don't appreciate the wildlife around them or in many cases, don't even notice it!

ive just got back from the south of france, the camargue region, it was wonderful seeing flamingoes feeding in the waters and the beautiful white horses of that region. i have never seen as many magpies as i did in the town we were staying in, nearly every tree had a resident magpie, we saw three youngsters playing chase round the bottom of a tree. while lazing by the pool surrounded by beautiful flowers and herbs we kept seeing a huge big bee, totally black even its wings were black, and in the evenings we'd watch the fish jumping and the swallows diving for flies.

Just got back from a short cruise (first time ever) of the Norwegian Fjords. Mr. yogasun was hopeful of seeing some birds during the sea days but nothing of interest.

So weird to not see any small birds ashore - just the odd Hooded Crow, one robin, a few pied wagtails - bizarre, but apparently it's too far north for a lot of our birds (I was informed).
Back to lovely East Devon to see what's around this week as I'm not working.
