ive just completed a 3 month intensive , plastering course ,,,,,,,, but im having trouble getting a job ......i know there a a lot of poles on the building sites ......... any tip , of job hunting ..... maybe i should go to building dsites a a labourer ,...then when they see what "i can do with the trowel 2 ..plastering contractors ,......... will then be queing to take me on .... (is squarebear on hand to advise me here ? ) /......

Are you brave enough to go into private work? If so, you could market yourself locally - flyers through doors etc. Don't know where you live but I'm in west yorkshire and can't get a plasterer for love nor money. Good Luck

Yeah, I did a course last year for my own purposes, and I ended up plastering someone's kitchen within weeks...just put word round that you are able to do small jobs (or whatever you feel comfortable with) and you should be able to make a few quid that way. Pricing jobs is a bit of a nightmare, i ended up charging a lot less than the customer would have paid. This is probably your best route, good luck...

I wouldn't advise going for work with plastering gangs or bigger contractors. It's not a question of ability, but SPEED. They will, I'm afraid, run rings around you . Dollie's right - go for private work if you can. The trouble is, it takes a long while to get known. Ask at the builder's merchants for the names of some small (maybe family) builders in your area. Offer them a day, or half day, whatever, free of charge as a trial. If you can do the job, they'll put work your way, and they'll tell others as well. A decent guy will give you a chance................I would. Good luck :o)
