The shampoos we use ourselves aren't suitable for animals and often residue can be left behind. Different breeds sometimes suffer certain skin problems. What breed is your dog?
Use a good quality mild dog shampoo with Tea Tree oil or aloe vera which has healing, soothing qualities.
Another reason could be the dog's diet. We had a problem with feeding a certain complete dog food with a high protein content, What are you feeding as this could contibute to skin condition?
Make sure you rinse really well after shampooing - my husband is a groomer and advises that dog's with a really nasty skin allergy are sometimes better off having the coat clipped really short (especially if long coated) to allow skin to recover and make it easier to treat and keep and eye on. Antihistamines prescribed by the vet can also help with easing the itching for your dog. Hope this helps. Good luck.

He,s been ithching that much that the hair on his long ears is only half as thick as it should be, we have to keep cutting the tatters out! bact to the vets this friday though!
i have a west highland white terrier who suffers badly with itchy skin his skin under his belly is black and virtually no fur all his legs are the same as he constantly bites the fur off them.
my vet prescribed piriton for him which helps alot and a shampoo called Malaseb. I think you can only get the shampoo from the vets as it is for all animals with skin conditions and i have never seen it in the shops.
ask your vet it might just help.x
