Just wondering, I know why we drive on the left - historical and sword fighting and stuff, but why do most foreign countries drive on the wrong side of the road? as i said, just wondering.

That's a terrific website for this question.
In my travels I have come across a little curiosity.
In South East Asia they are like us and drive on the left with one notable exception - Myanmar (Burma) where they drive on the right. Unfortunately, at least where I went, all their cars are right-hand-drive, which makes driving there rather more hazardous that it might be!! This is apparently a hangover to when the British left and was a thumb to the nose at British administration.
hawkwalks link gave a good explanation but I did have to laugh at the opening statement that said

Visitors are informed that in the United Kingdom traffic drives on the left-hand side of the road. In the interests of safety, you are advised to practice this in your country of origin for a week or two before driving in the UK.

Errrr yes, practice driving on the left in your own country for a couple of weeks, that might be good for our road safety, not so good for the road safety for the country your practicing in I should imagine!!

:o)
