Watch out for a little clip at the front edge of the slot the card goes into that may be holding the current card in.
it requires more force than most people realise to remove and insert the cards, so don't be afraid to use fairly firm force (not too silly of course!)
it's often better to download the latest drivers from the card manufactures site rather than use the ones on the CD which will be out of date probably.

Ideally yes it's a wrist band that earths you.
Horrible things, lost count of the times I've tried to walk away from a workbench forgetting I'm attached to the bench by a wrist strap!!
But as you are unlikely to have one at home then earthing your self before touching anything is the next best thing.
I personally always leave the mains lead plugged in but turned off at the wall so the case is earthed so touching the case earths you
