it's a method of connecting rotor blades to an engine

check the components in the protector/seal section in an electric submersible pump (oil industry). I think the assembly that carries the downward thrust generated by the pump section is made of tilting sections, check it out.

Are you thinking of a swash Plate. It provides thrust (or support) or transmits movement at an angle relative to its axis in 2 planes whereas a standard thrust bearing only provides thrust in 1 plane relative to its axis. A common application is helicopter rotor blades where it is used to alter the pitch of the blades. Or in hydraulic pumps where the plate drives pistons into cylinders and generates pressure.
