A couple of years ago I saw one of the US police documentaries - "Cops" or something.

In the clip that I was watching there were policemen with big guns surrounding a car with two young guys in it. They were shouting at the guys to come out or we will shoot. Nothing happened and it was getting really tense.

Then they threatened to set the two big, snarling alsations on them. The two guys actually lept out of their car.

They are certainly effective crime stoppers - and they just love their work.
