I usually keep my ginger in a plastic bag,and it frequently sprouts. It may grow as much as 4"....then it will fizzle out. I have been told it is related to the lilly family.....does anyone have any advice as to how I may grow it as a proper plant??

Can be easy and I've had good results. It has to be kept in a bright warm place, but not in direct sunlight. Though it may not flower, it's still a nice-looking plant. See here.
