We have adopted Sandy!
15 Answers
After nearly a year, since we lost Tara, (thank you again for all your support), I'm back among the dog- owners! Sandy is a Golden Retriever (pure?- probably) who was bought as a birthday present (stupid idea) for someone who didn't want a dog. So he came to a family who already had two dogs and promised to find a good home for him. He's ten weeks old and should have been called Dennis (the menace) but we've had him for a week now and love him to bits. Now, the house isn't as clean and tidy as it has been for the past few months and he's had a taste of all my plants, But oh, it's great to have a dog again!!

I fully expect to have carpets without corners and always mop and bucket at the ready (luckily I have sealed parquet floors!)
After more than 15 years it's almost a new experience but a challenge too!
Btw, he eats like a piranha, so he must feel at home :-))

oh so been there, you settle to life with an older dog and forget about shredding tissues (whole boxes) learning to get things by standing on hind legs, the fun of digging holes in the garden...that the WHOLE world is made to be chewed (sometimes swallowed too) walks speed up and get longer again and the MESS....I wouldn't miss a moment of it and am sure you feel the same ((hugs)) to you and Sandy
Congrats! I'm so jealous. I had a golden retreiever many many years ago and she was the most adorable puppy and grew into the most wonderful dog. Be warned though - they are huge water hounds!! If it's wet he'll be in it before you blink and stand clear when he decides to shake! You're going to have so much fun with him.
That's lovely, tara! If it's any consolation, my house is like a tip, too. 2 dogs & 5 cats, including little Mischa, the 3-legged kitten I took in after my Monty died. She's a little menace, too, but great fun! Have a lovely life with Sandy (I dog-sat an elderly Retriever a few weeks ago and he was adorable - they're lovely dogs, aren't they?). K x
Thanks for all your lovely posts. I had him out in the rain this morning and he wallowed in the long (very wet) grass. Going round trees on the wrong side, zig-zagging and finding the soaking legs of my jeans as good to sink his teeth into as any chew stick! Now he's lying exhausted on his rug - out for the count. I can't believe the little monkey can look so angelic - but you don't know what he's dreaming :-)))

Hi, barb, I wish you many happy years with Lottie.
Shaney, we hadn't planned right now, it's just under a year now without Tara. We had thought come December when hubby retires, but Sandy just happened and seemed right for us. If you're dithering, you're already halfway there! One day the right pup will come along - so go for it!
