Why do cats sleep in obscure places?

Buddy was until the last 2 days content to wedge himself between the kettle (i dont use it so it wasnt the heat- and the coffee jar-now -he he has taken to wedging himself between my childrens photos and the CD player -the whole table is skew wiff.O forgot between the kettle and the table it was on top of the fire and the photos got lashed and he stretched out -no heat again?
I have a Buddy album -I know they are all the same but dont you just love them when they are daft?

It seems that cats sleep anywhere that is inconvenient for us humans.
