my cat won't eat
27 Answers
my lovely cat has been diagnosed with kidney disease. He was in the vet hospital had all the checks and been on the drip etc. When he came out his blood count was a bit better and he is now on tablets and special KD food,At first he ate all the kd different foods, biscuits, packets and pate and took his tablet with no trouble but now he refuses all of it..This morning I had to force open his mouth and throw the tablet to the back of his mouth and make him swallow it.The vet said i could give him tuna in spring water and also chicken if he didn't eat his KD .At first he ate this but now he paws me goes to sit by his food bowl but whatever i try to tempt him with he sniffs and walks away.i have tried hand feeding him but without much success. We go to see the vet again on Tuesday.i am at my wits end ..It's just as if he knows he is ill and wants to give up.Can anyone help me plse Ilove him so much and don't want to lose him.

Bonnie used to be very interested in everything we did too, right from kitten stage to old girl. I think she thought she was human. She used to make me laugh when she wanted to go out the garden door she used to climb up and try and turn the key with her paws. She turned it in the right direction too! LOL. If I closed my bedroom door and she wanted in she would open it by jumping on the door handle and leaning on the right hand side of it to push it down. They are clever when they have something to gain aren't they ;-) The other thing I always found lovely about her, not once in her whole life did she ever lash out and scratch anyone. Even if she was having uncomfortable treatment at the vets, the worse she ever dished out was a little ladylike hiss and even then she'd look a bit sorry after - I miss her so much :-(
She sounds so much like my cat blanx. She is very gentle too. We have never known her to scratch or be aggressive. I understand why you miss her so much. There must be a huge hole in your life.
All animals are special but some are more special than others. We had a cat that could open doors by jumping up and hanging on the door latch. It used to really surprise any visitors we had when the door opened and a cat came in swinging on the door handle!
Wonderful creatures cats. I love them. Mind you I love my dogs too!

To all who were so kind and caring when my lovely cat was not eating..
He is much better now that he is on his tablets for the kidney condition and his last blood count has improved and he is eating well (still not too keen on the KD but he will eat it from time to time)and he has even put on a little bit of weight
Vet says these are all good signs. He looks in good condition and is going about his cat's life as normal
His daily dose of tablets are... 1 tablet for kidneys half a tablet to encourage him to eat and one eight of a tablet for his stomach and now I am quite an expert at gettng them down him with very little fuss.but cutting up an already small tablet into eighths is quite a feat... but I am getting there too.
Once again thanks for all the good advice and concern you have all expressed.
