I'd rather have a font with serifs, but the only access I can find in Control Panel / Fonts merely shows what they look like. The expalanation alongside 'Font' mentions 'change'. What's the answer?.

To my knowledge, this folder is for fonts that you will use in your programs, like word, nothing else.

Thanks Postdog. So I have to accept the font as it is - which seems to be the same as on this site/
I am unsure . . .but is it possible to change the font by going into START>CONTROL PANEL>DISPLAY

I've already been into Display and changed font size, but I can't see anywhere there to changer the font itself.
(2-part post):

These quote are from the Help files of Internet Explorer:
1. "When Web authors and designers create Web pages, they often specify particular type (font) faces, colors, sizes, and background colors. These settings are specified for each item, or in a "style sheet," which is a type of template for specifying how different styles should appear throughout a Web page or site.

You can override any or all of these settings, which is useful if you have limited or low vision. You can specify your font and color preferences for all pages that do not use style sheets, and then you can specify whether to use any or all of your preferences on pages that use style sheets."

2. "To specify fonts and colors to always use for Web pages:
On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options.
On the General tab, click Accessibility.
Change the settings as needed. "
This is from the Firefox help file:
"Overriding Page Fonts
Some web sites may display text in fonts that are difficult to read, and other sites may rely on the browser's default fonts. You can set your default fonts by going to Tools > Options, selecting the Content panel, and selecting a default font and size in the Fonts & Colours section.
You can specify default fonts for different styles, including serif, sans-serif, and monospace by clicking the Advanced button.
However, many web pages specify their own fonts, so your choices will have no effect on such pages. To override the fonts defined by such pages, untick the Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections aboveoption.
Note that some web pages may display incorrectly depending on your choice of a default font."

To change the font associated with the icons on your desktop, right-click on the desktop. Select 'Properties' and 'Appearance'. Set 'Item' to show 'Icon' and then select your preferred font. Click 'Apply' and 'OK'.
