irritating skin

grrr this has been going on for 6 + months now. since my op on my arm last year, ive noticed a big change to my skin. i get constant blisters like from my elbow area to my forearm, fluid oozing all the time, im always having to dress it up with padding to soak it. its really annoying me. i went to my Gp, they say theres nothing they can do, its the skin thats oozing fluid, but WHY?? all they given me is just moisterising cream.
i went to see my consultant who did the op. hes clueless too, and said nothing but... sorry i really cant help you idont know why its doing it.

was told there is no cure and no special cream for it and will constant ooze fluid, n need to keep it elevated. *sighs* i cant keep wrapping my arm with dressing :(

Goodness me what a nightmare no one seems to be offering help to you, have you thought about consulting an alternative like herbalist etc i cannot htink why this should just be left as it is.

Is it no better sweetie? Oh dear - there must be SOMEthing that can be done. Wonder if some kind of old-fashioned poultice'd do the trick? My grandmother told me about one of her sisters who burnt her arm years ago. It oozed for weeks, until the poison was drawn out with lint. This made it a lot better, but a poultice did the trick in the end.

Oh gosh yes a poultice sounds a good idea but the ingrdients need to be appropriate to the problem. I recall my gran doing one on my brothers arm as he had a boil and it removed it root and all. Worth researching

Thanks mamyalynne - people tend to forget about these old cures, don't they? but they worked years ago, so why not now?
I know that WB's had everything that the doctor can think of, and I'm sure she won't mind me saying this - but if you can determine what the oozing fluid is, WB - then it shouldn't be too difficult to look up info on poultices and the like. if there's no joy, then I'm sure I have an old remedy book somewhere. Keep in touch. x

Yes indeed the fluid needs to be tested for any particular bacteria etc

Have you been referred to a dermatologist at all? If not then I would suggest that you demand to see one.

I agree with Loftielottie. It is now time to see a dermatologist. You obviously need to ask for this specifically from your Dr as he/she would have referred you by now.
I always think...... if you were the Queen and went to your Dr with this complaint, would they tell her there was nothing they could do? I don't think so!!! You deserve better treatment. It is your right to good health and you have and are paying for it everytime you get your payslip. Don't settle for less. x

Your consultant who did the op. may be saying nothing in case he incriminates himself. Who knows, some bacteria getting into the wound during the operation may be responsible for this - he wouldn't want to draw attention to this for obvious reasons!

Please seek help and don't take no for an answer. You are entitled to see a specialist.

Thanks everyone for your kind advices. ive never heard of poultice. i just googled it, and it mentioned about wraping my arm with porrige? sounds yucky lol, but does it really work?

after my operation my skin did get infected and almost had to have the whole skin removed and have skin graft. but after a few months it healed!! few months after that my gp tested the fluid to see if my skin was infected, bt the result showed fine and was very cleaned.

icey u mentioned that u have an old remedy book lol was that passed down from your gran orsomething? :P

mayb i should try aloe vera? i know this plant is very good and cures alot of things....might give that a try.
or try some chinese remedy, they r quite gd too, depending where u go!!

lottie, gp wont refer me to anyone, she said its cos my arm is full of fluid that needs to come out.
and yes i agree le chat its terrible that my consultant (hes a prof. now) couldnt give me an answer :(

i bet if i went private i would have got treated straight away!!!! :(

If your GP refuses to refer you WhiteBear, it is your right to ask for a second opinion and I would certainly do so. Six months is far too long for you to be suffering like this without knowing what is happening and having to ask people on here for their advice.

None of us know the problem we can only guess. Please don't delay is getting a second opinion and hopefully a referral - it is your right!

If you try Aloe Vera - get Aloe Propolis cream - its absolutely fantastic.

Thanks Lottie, it is really fraustrating. my surgery have four GPs, ive seen two of them, and 2 Nurses They ALL say the same.

my Consultant, who is a PROFESSOR, doesnt know either although he only specialises in Hand.

Hey Sally, the Aloe Propolis cream is really good, i remember we bought loads from a friend years ago before Aloe Vera was known, (Gosh Brits r so behind!). i need to raid the house to see if we have any left, i remmeber they were Gel like, i suppose there a few type, maybe i should buy the plant it self at least there are no chemicals init!! xx

Just be careful what you put on. I am allergic to aloe vera! It doesn't suit everybody.

I still think you should demand a referral to an appropriate hospital specialist. I would. Fight for your rights.

yeah that is true lottie, aloe vera isnt suitable for everyone, ive used that cream before for dry skin years ago so i should be ok.

im allergic to E45 it just makes me itch even more!!

i should really speak to my GP about it. its not fair! i am paying for my service.

I know ur all getting bored with my 'old remedies' but its back to the salted warm water, spread with a foam sponge, dried naturally and dusted with athletes food powder (which is antiseptic). Try that. Or if you can get sea-weed wrap that around the infection....better still, have a weeks holiday by a warm sea to swim in......all cured there.

There's a great place near Bodrun, Turkey where you swim in a fenced bath with fish which nibble damaged/fouled skin as a cure.

Please try the salt-water first.

Turkey is expensive just now....but some good prices on Ceefax. Will find out more about the fishes.....they worked on a teacher who had very virulent psoriasis
