My friend has a wee yorky called albie, he is 8 years old now, and has stomach issues, which means he has to take tablets, plus a regimented diet consisting of chicken breast and some very expensive tinned dog food, she is struggling to keep up with his vets fees, she has pet insurance but has to pay the excess as he is regularly at the vets, anyway i am trying to get her to talk to her vet about his future, as he wont get any better and will steadily get worse as he ages, what is the life span of a yorkie?wouldnt it be kinder to put him to sleep?

She should only have to pay the excess once if its an on going condition.
Having your pet put to sleep isn't an easy decision to make in any circumstance. If he's not in pain and has a reasonable quality of life your friend probably will want to keep him for as long as possible. As you suggest a talk with the Vet to get a long view is a good idea but I know if it was Max in this position, while I wouldn't hesitate if I thought he was suffering, I would want him with me for as long as possible.
