I'm sure that most of us are over the moon about Britain's flipping marvellous showing at the Beijing Olympics.

...most of us, but not the Daily Mail.

In an awesome piece of 'journalism', they've found a way to attack the state school system/Government and quelle surprise - political correctness!!!

Now, I don't have kids, but my young nephew is at an independent school and I know that school sports day is a really big thing.

It it true that kids in state schools are really discouraged from taking part in competitive sports?

And is this down to the fact that we have too many female teachers (I kid you not - this is what the article alludes to!)

If this is the case, how comes we seem to be able to produce so many world class football players (not traditionally a sport of 'the middle classes')

Could there be other reasons (kids have so many more outlets for their interests now).

Your thoughts please. Am I barking up the wrong tree? Has The Daily Mail hit the nail on the head with this one, or is this an example of skewed reporting, written to justify a political agenda?

Our outstanding success in the bike events seemed to start when Norman Tebbitt told us all to get on our bikes.
Apparently schools have now been issued with a new government approved, non-racist, non-hierarchical, non-confrontational chess set - 32 grey pawns, all on the same side.

In the 80's my sons' highly regarded school saw the elderly and very traditional headmaster retire, to be replaced by a leftie, with beard, who came in and immediately started decimating the place.

He made many very competent teachers resign in exasperation, replaced the reading scheme with one comprising books without words, stopped the marking of work, banned one teachers collection of small animals (which she took with her when she left) and threatened to disband the fund raising committee if it didn't allow him the decision on spending the money.

The final straw was the stopping of sports days. The peasants (parents) revolted. It was reinstated due to the heated situation.

Eventually this man left due to ill health. He actually had a breakdown and the last i heard was he had become a carpenter!

The school, by then comprising of mostly women teachers in their early twenties, received the lowest education authority ratings in a large area. It took years to recover from this one mans destructive leadership.

I think, given the time this nincompoop was at the school, he helped start the rot which gave the DM its story, rather than the other way round.

None of the Mail's observations are new.

Incidentally, much to Sir's chagrin, the footie team run by the male deputy head and a student male, got all the way to the regional final. They lost, but only just. The youngsters skills were honed from knowing each other, kicking a ball around together as much as poss and loving it. The way footballers used to be made in this country....
My nephew's school is one of those 'it doesn't matter if you don't win it's the taking part'. The losers get special awards apparently.

Let's not kid ourselves though. Take away the bike and canoe wins in the Olympics and we didn't actually get that many golds.

The Chinese kids start around 6 years old playing games like ping pong/tennis/gymnastics etc for 8 hours a day. If any parent or school even thought of encouraging that here, they would be arrersted for child abuse.
Skewed reporting, written to justify a political agenda

Given that not even the Daily Hate can skew this round to blame the Muslims, the next group that can be held responsible is women. No wonder boys are being held back when cosseted by those damn PC bunch.

What I don't quite understand is given that in the field of child care, such as primary schools, nursing, after school activities etc, why is it left to women and therefore a relatively poor paid activity. Surely this precious task of moulding young boys into being competitive athletes, entrepreneurs, business men, politicians shouldn't be left to the deficient gender anyway, it should be a mans job.

Why are PC women keeping non PC men out of their rightful position. That's what I would like to know.
A lorry has just arrived in Beijing, loaded with barbed wire and wooden posts.

Turned out to be the Irish fencing team.

Hope I haven't caused offence.
