I'm currently going through this process myself, and am very amicable with my husband. We each bought our own properties and since we earn similar salaries and wish things to remain good, we have no interest in the others finances. We are proceeding with our divorce online with quickie-divorce at a cost of 69 - we fill our forms in with no mention of the others finances and then just pay 340 total court costs - shared between us! Solicitors seem to charge rather a lot for the same service that you can get online cheaper, and it seems since your dad's solicitor really doesn't care about your parents feelings, he is just out to get what he can financially! If your parents can overcome any animosity this has caused I would suggest they sit down and have a chat and make a final decision on what they want from the other. Then just tell the solicitor the facts - if he gets stroppy, your folks can always sign something to say they have relieved him of this part of the procedure.
