If for example you  were to buy some dvds from ebay which turned out to be really bad counterfeit copies, for which the seller is obviously not willing to offer a refund, is there anything you can do to go about getting money back? Thanks

I think if you pay by Paypal there is a slim chance of being able to recoup your money but being realistic i think you just have to cut your losses and make sure you leave negative feedback so that they dont scam anyone else. Probably not what you wanted to hear though sorry!

I guess it depends if you knew they were counterfeit before you bought them... My Dad bought some computer software on ebay, which he believed to be genuine.  When it arrived, it was blatently fake, so he emailed the seller, who didn't actually admit that it was fake, but offered him a full refund.

Nice one cheers for that, it seems that since I received the item some other people have left negative feedback as they have also received fake goods, the seller is claiming that they only want to return them as the buyers have copied the discs since receiving them and now want to return them. I reckon you are probably right about leaving more negative feedback so will do that. I did contact barclaycard too who are going to send a dispute form or something as the goods aren't as described, ill let you know if anything comes of that

cheers!

I had the same problem before Christmas.  I contacted Ebay who really didn't want to know - they gave me a whole list of things I could do such as contact the seller - an obvious one, but didn't actually offer any help themselves.  I then did contact the seller, not expecting to get a reply let alone a refund, but he actually did refund the money straight away, I think I am one of the lucky ones.  By the way, with regard to a different transaction on Ebay (i don't have a lot of luck do I?!), I DID need to get a refund for something I never received, and contact Paypal who basically said "tough, there isn't enough funds in the seller's account to give you a refund" or something, so no joy there, but my credit card refunded the amount.  Apparently this seller was reported to the FBI (it was from the USA).

This might not help you to get your money back but I advise you to report the seller to the publisher of the official dvd and to Trading Standards. There is also a website where you can report sellers of counterfeit goods - http://www.ripofftipoff.net/

EBay make a LOT of money off bootleggers so they're not keen to do much about it. They might change their minds if a bit of external pressure was put on them.

That looks good, seems like ill have to say bye to my 100 but it will be quite sweet to see them get investigated. Fortunately there was a return address on the envelope as it was posted special delivery, so no hiding now!!!

if its as much as 100 I believe you can claim from paypal with 60 days of sale. Also you can go to the square deal dispute center and have a mediator negotiate the problems for you. I agree with the other posts though. In the main Ebay do not want to know. What they seem to chase are Non-paying bidders I've heard. The scales are all balanced on the side of the seller with very little protection for the buyer. Since I joined ebay with my daughter in Oct 2003 we have lost nearly 600 to various unscrupulous sellers, mainly from international purchases and faulty computing goods.

Also leaving neg feedback only gets you neg feedback in return and there seem to be lots of no longer registered buyers in the feedback sections and yet many sellers have hundreds of NEG comments and are still trading! So be careful before you leave neg feedback if you value your own reputation because it cannot be removed once they pin it back on you.
