Diabetes and Hypo's
3 Answers
My partner is a diabetic and is on medication for it.
When he gets a 'Hypo' he will quickly have something to
to increase his blood sugar level. After he's done that he gets tired and at times falls asleep, is it safe to let him do this? Thanks for any advice

My son has Diabetes and it can be worrying. If your worried about your partner falling asleep after he has taken say a mini mars to bring his sugar level up you should ask him to check his blood sugar level again and if its normal and its during the day that he feels tired maybe he or yourself should check it out with your diabetic clinic, perhaps he might need to have his insulin increased.

What he really needs is something to eat that will bring his blood sugar levels back up to normal AND help them stay there - so better he has some carbs (eg a digestive biccie or two) as well as something really sweet... As the others have suggested, it doesn't seem as if his blood sugar levels are in balance (ie in control) - he needs to discuss these swings with his care team at the clinic (GP or Hospital). May I please suggest that he has a look at this website for lots of really useful guidance and help, as well as getting back in touch with his care team.
