I live next door to a working man's club, last year the chairman informed us that they were to build a wall on the boundary between us as the smoking ban was coming into force and that the smokers were to be using the area right next to my back garden. They built the wall 6 feet high for our privacy, obviousy we were happy with this, but now we have the problem that their members keep climbing the wall to peer over into my garden, this is a concern as I have 2 children who play in the garden and also a dog that is less than amused with these strangers. I am going to be writing a strong letter into the club but wanted to know if I have any legal rights to privacy etc that I can threaten them with.

Many thanks for any help you may be able to offer.

Well you could complain to the chairman who might be able to take further action - it's probably wise to do this ASAP because this isn't fair on you, your family, or the society
There is no reason why you can't have a sprinkler under the wall, or some such deterrent.

But do get your complaint in writing as soon as possible, and send a copy to the licencing dept of your local council.

Make it clear in your letter a copy has been sent.
No privacy law being broken here.......suggest you string barbed wire along top of wall (to keep ur dog in, of course) if Club dont stop invasion.

Will fire off a letter early next week, I was just wondering if I could throw any legal weight around in it really. Did think of the sprinkler idea but in this day and age I'd probably be sued for ruining someones best suit or something. Teram, great idea but a bit ugly looking for me, I have planted 3 fast growing honeysuckles so next year I hope not to have too much of a problem. When this started earlier in the year I shouted the paedo word around loudly and that seemed to stop it but now it's started up again.

Many thanks for all your replies they are much appreciated.
You can get anticlimb paint - a thick horrible material - not very unsightly on top of a wall, but will make people keep off the wall - ask the club to put up signs accordingly.
Tell the Secretary of the club that, unless steps are taken to protect your privacy, you will apply to the Council for a review of the Club Premises Certificate on the grounds of Protection of Children and Public Nuisance. This gives you the weight of law and you will be prefectly within your rights to do so. The ball is then in their court.
