Leaving my job
18 Answers
Can anyone help me please. I work two jobs, one full time the other part time. I have booked and paid for a holiday to greece and been having trouble with getting some time off. I have been able to get the time off of my full time job no probs but my other employer is unsure whether he can give me the time off as he is unsure of there being cover for me. If it turns out he cant get me cover and i just dont turn up and go on holiday without telling him, is there any legal action he could take?? Basically what is the worst that could happen?? Thanks, Kate

Do you have a job where you could ask a workmate to cover for you?
By the way (most though not all) employment contracts will state somewhere that holidays have to be booked and is only granted by the employer. We were told not to book untill given the goahead by manager.

I'm not a ******* idiot thanks, you ****. I know i'll get sacked and that doesn't bother me. What I mean is, if i leave without giving notice is there anything he can do about it? They are a rubbish employer and have mucked me about from when i started. I signed my contract and had a mini interview in a car in the car park of my full time job for a start........ how odd!? They did say I could have the time off then when I called to tell him the dates he told me that the woman who would cover me was taking time off around this time. So again if i just stop going to my job - i know he will sack me, thats a given - but is there anything leagally that can happen????
I always book my holidays 8 to 10 months prior to taking them then i tell my employer when i taking the time off if they don't like itI'd leave, does that make me a xxxxxxx idiot..I don't think so.. People who call other people XXXXXXX idiots for asking Questions are XXXXXXX idiots.. As for the question..just go on your holiday and enjoy yourself.. if you can't take your holidays when you want them its a bad job is'nt it...
You asked if your employer can do anything.
He could sue you for breach of contract because you have failed to give the required notice, but this is unlikely to happen.
More likely you will have trouble getting you final pay check / P45. You cannot be denied your pay - he might just make it difficult for a while.
But if you take up Red's suggestion and resign, by the time the holiday day's you are due are added to notice period, you are surely nearly up to one month.
