Good morning everyone. I have been away for a week, so back to it today. Have I missed anything here? or just the usual.
:-) I hope you all have a nice day.
everton, my great uncle served & died in the second world war, he was only 23. He was in the 48 royal marine commandos. He is buried in Ranville cemetary in France. I have a lot of info on Operation Overlord (saw your post this morning) Who would I contact re. any survivors who may have known him, ie organisations?
Sachs my sympathies for your loss of a brave Uncle you never got to know.
I've never served in the forces so I'm no expert (if I pass Stokie I'll mention it) but I'd start with the CWWGC.org.uk (I think that's right) it's the Commonwealth War Graves Commision they'll tell you his grave details and serial number with that I'd go to the Royal Marines you may find when you go there that within the regimental diaries there'll be mentions of him.
Good luck with your search, tell me how you get on or if you go to visit his grave.
Good luck and God bless.
P.S.
Got good buses on the 81! Now as for the 82....
Hi everton, I have been on the CWWGC in the past and printed off a couple of things relating to my uncle, so I have his grave number & serial number. Didn't know about the regimental diaries though! I will find a point of contact with the Royal Marines, thankyou!
Like I say I'm no expert, but I think if you has his battalion etc. they should have a record of their actions on that basis you should be able to at least know the places he was posted to once he joined the regiment right upto the specific objectives of that particular operation.
Tell me how you get ono with it, I know I'm a nosey b@st@rd
