For the ahem slightly older folk on here ......... Do you remember getting your first tv?

Mine was a 14 inch portable black and white, I bought it on 6 months' interest-free credit and was chuffed to bits when it was paid off (many moons ago).

Aaah, those were the days ..........

Haven't got a clue what you're on about Mrs C.

*taps foot and whistles innocently*

I remember my parents getting their first remote control tv. (with a lead from the remote to the tv!!)

I remember getting a big magnifying screen that clipped on the front - it had a light green tinge to it so you could pretend you were posh and had a colour tv!
hi mrs chappie, yeah I had a 14" B/W too with the twiddly knobb thingy, was cheap and lasted for years n years. prob still in my mums loft

gawd it was frustrating getting a channel eh, through all that fuzzy squeakiness between the stations

Hey Al, there was a little circular aerial sticking out of the back and it was useless.

Every programme looked like it was filmed in snowy weather! lol
I remember my first tv .b/w and it was massive stuck out about 3 foot at the back and had an indoor ariel about 6 foot long had to stand on a chair to get it on wall to right position for signal. Yes those were the days.
yeah but it was OURS and it was awesome eh haha
and my B/W licence cost 13 for the whole year (or thereabouts)

Prior to me getting my own place (and my own little portable tv) our mum had one that had a meter on the back and you had to put coins in to watch it.

Money was always tight, and the bl00dy thing would always run out of money half way through Corrie!
At the risk of stating the obvious for all you lovely ABers having the nerve to think of watching TV instead of chatting in AB, please bear in mind to buy only a digital TV from now on. Correct me if I am wrong, but think that the final switchover to digital will be in 2012, so all analogue TVs won't work after that date. Would look for the Digital sign when buying a TV set.

In case someone asks if all sets sold now are Digital, the blunt answer is THEY ARE NOT! Went to buy a combi, but could not find a digital one anywhere. Can any ABers tell me where I can find one of this illusive objects?
good grief all your sets were modern, my parents bought one in 1954, it had a great big H shaped arial, didn't work when a car went past the house, unless the car was fitted with suppressors on the spark plugs, this later became compulsory for all motorists of the day, and many repairs were effected with the fisted hand on top of the set,or wriggling the valves in the back of the set,
Did that set run on electricity or steam, logic?
I've got a 14" too.

Ahem,I mean it's B & W as well.It's up in the loft under cover,so that it doesn't get damp.Miraculously, it still works.
It has it's own in built aerial.I remember using it for my old ZX Spectrum computer which I also have in my wardrobe.
In fact I have two ZX Spectrum computers.
Even they still work.I've got a huge collection of Spectrum games in boxes in the loft, and some in my bedroom.
It's been a very long time since I last played with it.
