My cat has a snapped fang and is drooling, does he need medical attention?

Hi,
Can anyone help me? My cat has come home with a big gauge out of his top lip and one of his top fangs has snapped off (leaving only a little stub). He has since been reluctant to eat unless it is hand fed to him and he is sitting with his tongue sticking out.
The tongue sticking out is now leading to him drooling (not very dignified bless him). He is very different in his behaviour and pretty agitated (especially with our other cat who gets a beating every time she goes near him).
Is there anything the vet can do? Can they give pain killers for cats etc... or am I just being numb for asking?
I'm just a bit worried that he's in pain and suffering alot. He slept on the bed with me last night and didn't seem to be in any pain then... (Is he just being brave)??
Hope someone can help.
Thanks

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.it sounds like he has a pretty significant mouth injury. drooling is a sign of huge distress in cats and you should get him to the vets asap. he has at best got into a scrap and will need a clean up, painkillers and antibiotics or at worst has been possibly run over/fallen or squished somehow and the physical damage you can see is the outer sign of the injury. if he is cut and bleeding, drooling, not eating and potentially not drinking - get him to the vet NOW!!! at the very least, ring them and get advice - the drooling will make him lose fluids (essential if he is in shock from an injury/bleeding) and he wont be able to take in any more. worst case scenario could mean he will die of dehydration.
As much as I feel very sorry for you worrying about your cat don't you think it would be better to ring the vet for advice rather than posting on here, I can understand people posting about minor things but not ones as serious as this, sorry to sound harsh but if it were my cat I would be rushing to the vet as soon as it happened. Hope your little one will be okay.
If you haven't done so already - yes, yes, yes and YES! Get this poor animal to the vet right now. As someone else pointed out, this is clearly a significant injury. The change in your cat's behaviour alone tells you that. Even if it was "only" a broken tooth, canine teeth or "fangs" have a big blood and nerve supply. If infection sets in there, this could get very serious indeed.
If that's not enough, any cat which is unable to eat for more than a couple of days is at risk of hepatic lipidosis - an extremely serious, life-threatening condition.
Good luck.
