There was a mistake in the preamble to the puzzle.

I spoke to Tim Moorey, the setter. who advises that we should take all the LAST letters from the flowers.

The problem is that even doing that I cannot make a seasonal rose of (3.5).

I imagine the crossword will be voided.

Thank you so much, it was driving me mad. I had the usual garden roses, watering can roses, pink wine and my hair was coming out. I will now relax due to your help.
The answer is "early tea" which is an anagram of EERLAATY - formed from the last letters of PRIMROSE, CELANDINE, CLOVER, SPIGNEL, DAHLIA, GARDENIA, VIOLET and PANSY.
Hope this has helped - I was stumped until I read the first reply you got - i.e. to use the last letters of ALL the flowers!
Best regards,

Thank you chuckbod, it makes a nonsense of the puzzle as kayakamina says - especially as the answer should be 3,5!! Even more so as I have never heard of an early tea.
I'm certain my magazine had 5,3 as the words but I have binned it now so I can't check! I googled 'early tea' to check that it is indeed a type of rose.
The original puzzle was (3,5)
Yeah - you are right, another-view. I fished my copy out of the bin to check! Looks like Mr. Moorey made a couple of errors with this one.

It will be interesting to see what decision Mr Moorey takes to decide who is the winner!!!

Thanks for everyones advice
