Mac Mail - problems...

I've just got home and tried to access my Mac Mail using my wireless connection. For some reason it just wouldn't connect so I went into Preferences and (stupidly) changed the advanced settings i.e. the Port. As a result it seems to have completely messed up and all my mail saved in folders on a 'server' have now gone. How can I get the mail to work properly as it should do and also how do I get those emails that I had in those saved folders on the server back?

Do you remember what port number you changed it from? If so, change it back.

If not, what email provider do you use? Gmail, your ISP, ...?
