3 months without boyfriend...
14 Answers
Me and my boyfriend have been going out for nearly 2 yrs and we have lived together almost a year. He is in the armed forces and has been told he is going to Iraq for 3 months in January. Its going to be strange, I'll miss him loads but I'll probably adapt to being by myself after a while and doing my own things without him. I'm dreading the day he has to go (I know I'll cry!) and I know I'll worry about him badly. Has anyone else been in this situation or have any advice on getting by while he's gone? I know I can write and speak to him but its not like having him here.

hi caj1
my boyfriend will work abroad for at least three months soon, im not sure how i will feel by then either. probably like you, adapt to being myself. we are living together nearly a year now, but he is working away from home last two months, back home every weekend, and we found we enjoy weekwend more than before actually, always up to do different things, during the week, i enjoyed the quiet moment by myself and got more time to spend with my friends as well. still hard to imagne not to see him for 3 months tho!! i hope you just try to enjoy as much as you can when you two together and take care of each other. :))
time flies, the break could make your feeling to each other stronger even, so not all bad i guess. x

Sorry might seem heartless, but going out with a forces person isnt going out with a 9 to 5 or even a shift worker, you must have known that when you started a relationship with him,it eventually had to happen that he would posted away from you be it the uk or abroad, before you say anything i was in the forces also!!!
I hope and pray all is well for him in Iraq. You love a soldier and this is his choice of profession. It is an honourable role fighting for his country as many men have done before him.
It will be a wrench for both of you and you will ache of each other but 3 months will soon pass. Be there for him when he returns as he will be counting on you and only for you will he keep safe.

Mirela - I agree that time apart can make the relationship stronger. You do take people for granted and its not til they're gone that you realise what they mean to you.
Puddicat - I know what you're saying and yes it was inevitable that he would be deployed somewhere eventually but I wasn't going to get rid of the best thing in my life because of that! I am moving with him when he gets posted in the UK.
Leggy - he's yet to ask me to marry him lol!
Terambulan - I think what you wrote was lovely. I will make sure I am there for him when he gets back. The day he is back will be fantastic - I can picture it now! I am proud of him for what he does, he has 3 medals already. I know I could never do what he and so many others do - I'm just not brave enough!
Redcrx - thanks for the link, it'll be good to speak to others in this situation

I'm in the same situation CAJ1, my boyfriend is also in the army but based abroad so can only see him for a weekend every now and again and when he has leave. He might also be going to iraq next year, for 6 months =( It's quite a new relationship as well which doesn't help but if you're determined to make things work I'm sure you'll be ok. Whenever he's away I'm always miserable for a little while but then you just get on with things, it's best if you keep busy. At the moment I am working a crazy amount of hours to keep me occupied but also to save up for a holiday we're going to go on when he has leave; just make the most of the time you have together I guess.
