i am making a compensation claim on royal mail for losing an item i posted by 'signed for' delivery. they ask if the item has intrinsic value...... what does this mean? the item was a wax cast of a piece of jewellery. so no value to the wax, but alot of time taken to make it.

This to distinguish from sentemental value, which obviously cannot be quantified.
ideally, you should make a claim based on the cost of the materials, and the time taken to make it - say �10 per hour, and calculate from there - then add some on because this is what trhey will pay out, if negligence on their part is acknowledged.
