In the four years since I last hired a car abroad, the conventional system re fuel seems to have changed.
Now it appears you pick up the car with a full tank of fuel for which you pay for.
My question is, does anyone have any recent examples of how much car hire firms in Spain are charging per litre, as in most cases they say it is different (more!) than normal prices?
Although I have not recently hired in Spain, in my experience elsewhere you get a full tank and return it full or else are charged their rate to fill. Their rate is usually somewhat higher than the highest you will see at fuel stations in that area. Very occasionally they charge even more than that - my impression is that this is to give you an incentive not to put them to the trouble.
Yes, mostly cars are returned with an empty tank, for some reason, you will not get a refund on any petrol remaining. Not sure, but this may be the budget cars hires (the cheaper ones)
