my recycle bin has gone!

I was looking at the contents of my recycle bin, and it just disappeared from my desktop! I'm sure it was just a short-cut, but I can't find the original to create another short-cut.
I've done a "search" and can't find it, I've tried to do a "system restore", which was unsuccessful, (not sure why) and now I'm stumped.
I'm running Vista Home Premium. I've had a bad day.. can anyone help please?
