chained during childbirth

Does anybody know if this country still hancuffs its female inmates during childbirth?

My Aunt works as a prison officer in a womans prison in the south. I asked and according to her, only risky inmates are handcuffed during childbirth - however she's never been present at a birth so can't say outright.

I would seriously hope not. I have given birth 3 times and can't imagine being in handcuffs to do so. I can't imagine even a risky inmate trying to do a runner or whatever while in labour. I would hope maybe they were in a secure, locked room with a guard on the door if they were a serious risk to anybody.

No it doesn't happen any more in the UK, although women prisoners may occasionally be handcuffed in hospital they are no longer cuffed while giving birth.

However, in Britain, women prisoners have NEVER been chained during childbirth, or at least never in the past few decades.  The suggestion is offensive, meritless garbage.

I challenge anyone to cite any credible source which claims otherwise.

However, some women prisoners are 'chained' on hospital treatment visits; if a risk assessment suggests that they may try and escape.
