Ok, so the legal age to drink alcohol in America is 21... which I was shocked at, since I just thought it would be 18 over there too. I'll be 19 soon, and will also be planning to move to America... so I just wondered what the laws would be for me? There's the idea that, well I'm in America, so will have to wait until 'their' legal age until I can drink over there... or then there's the other idea, that maybe because I am already legal to drink here, it would be legal for me to drink there too? Just wondered whether anyone would know? Thanks for your help in advance. :)
You are obliged to adhere to the laws of the land you live in. If USA drinking law stipulates 21 then that applies to you so long as you are in the country.
Yeah, that's exactly what I thought.. it's just that my partner who is an American, thought that maybe it would be different.
Thanks for confirming that for me.
My boyfriend once went when he was under 21.
He got a fake ID from here, then used it over there.
As they dont have a clue what our ID looks like they accepted it, so he could drink.
However I have heard they are being tougher these days, and many pubs/bars are asking for passport or birth certifcate only, though I think this applies more to places such as Las vegas.
