Rabbit making a nest
10 Answers
Hey i have a two 6 month old female rabbits. Just recently i have noticed the norweigen bunny has had a large build up of fur in her hutch which i thought she was malting but she isnt :s
Anyways my friend said maybe she was having a phantom pregnancy or in season?
Anyways, dwarf lop today, i have been watching her all day scurrying about busily in her hutch and she carried all her hay from one side of the hutch to the bedroom part (shes never done this before she usually sleeps in the open part and does her business in the sheletered part but lately has started doing it the oppositew way around) anyways i just looked at her and opened her hutch and she has large clumps of fur ontop of a big pile of hay as if she is making a nest! Is this signs of a phantom pregnancy or is she in season? Also would it be safe to mate her at this point as i have a male lionhead bunny also. Or could the rabbits be sensing hes there and thats why this is happening? Any help would be great! thankyou!

Your little bunny rabbit is making her nest.
Do not disturbed her nest that is her territory.
She will keeps it clean. even if she is carrying and give birth to some lovely bunny or not. leave her and observe her.
Overwise she may abandon her new born you see.
your rabbit is ready to breed.
my mother was a rabbit breeder you see and for years
we care for 50 rabbits not counting the little one

hi to you!
it is her animal instinct to do what she is doing and it is quite funny to watch them.
I used to breed lovebirds years ago and witnessed similar beheaviour.they can be very protective and i think it is their way to signal they are ready.
clean this soiled space but do not attends to pick look in her nest.
just warn her when you are about to access to her cage
do not make sudden movement she could be defencive.
clean around the nest using dustpan and brush and insure that you have clean hay near by and plenty with extra
carboard under to keep it warm.xx

Yeah i stick her in a mini run when i clean her out! I have a buck that i could mate her with but im not sure i guess its a big commitment duno how many shed have or if need any vet treatment plus need more hutches if not rehomed by a certain time! Id like some baby kits!I have a rabbit lead to let her have a run with as its longer the run is tiny (not a proper run) but she didnt like the lead!unless she needs to get usd to it!
mmmh problems with space. before commiting then try to find out if you could rehomed your little bunnies .
before you think of expending look at your lifestyle: have you got enough time , enough space , and yes the vet bill?
you little bunny should not go on the lead but the area you provide is not prob safe?
if the area is safe just leaves a little pile of her fav veg near by to keep her busy? Lay around some pieces of old drain pipe or half terracota pots layed down stuffed with hay to keep her amused? x
