outdoor tomatoes

Should I leave my tomatoes outside a while longer to ripen as they have not goone red yet with the lack of sun, or should I pick them and ripen them on the window sill?

Mine are the same so be patient, we may get a late spell of sun.

It depends where you live & what your weather forecast is. I live in the frozen north and I picked the last of mine this weekend to ripen on a window sill.
If your area has lots of rain forecast I'd take them in as too much water will cause the skins to split.

I live in Yorkshire and we have had constant rain for weeks now, we have had a bit of sun yesterday and today but the grey clouds are over again now.

I think I will bring some in at least.

I picked most of mine today, only leaving the small ones outdoors on the plants. The reason for this is that so much wet weather will almost certainly finish off the tomatoes with blight which is already spreading through the country, and then the lot will be lost virtually overnight. I've laid mine on trays lined with newspaper on the window sills and they ripen very quickly. Also, a sudden drop in night time temperature could cause the tomatoes either to split or the skins to become so damaged that they start to rot quickly.

I didn`t realise you live up north so I agree with the other comments as I live in Bournemouth on the highest point also, and don`t get really bad weather. Best of luck.
