i'm travelling to the united states 17th september to 5th october & my passport runs out on 26th february 2009. am i ok to travel?

no, you will need a new passport because it will need to be vaild for 6 months after you return from USA

After one vague answer and one totally incorrect answer, perhaps you'd like the right answer?

As long as your passport is valid on the date that you intend to leave the USA (as it clearly will be) you can travel withoutout any problems.

chris, thqnks for correcting my mistake - i dont know whats up with me latley! i of course bow to your superior knowledge and can only say i gave my answer because when we recently booked our holiday to florida the travel agents said we had to ave 6 months left. i can only apologise to the original poster for1) giving wrong info and 2) stealing a star from it!

Please allow me to apologise as well, Bednobs, for the slightly sarcastic tone of my post. You're one of AB's most valued contributors and I shouldn't have 'had a dig' at you. (It's just that Dzug and myself seem to spend a great deal of time correcting misinformation about passport validities. Ignorant travel agents certainly don't help things very much!)

Actually pink-kittens some countries do specify a passport validity beyond the extent of your stay and this may be as long as 6 months. It is a requirement, for example, for nationals of those countries who have not entered into an agreement with the US to exempt them of this 6 month validity. The UK has such an agreement, which effectively adds 6 months validity to a British passport, allowing it to bypass the 6 month extra validity required by others e.g. a citizen of Brunei wishing to enter the US will require an extra 6 months passport validity.

And to add to all this it is why I told Bearessantia for a start to Google the question as all the information is there and that I part copied some .Yes thanks Chris and Kempie for coming to the rescue .I have been on here 3 years now and you have both been a wealth of information for me.
