Help! A few months ago, i was approached by my boss to do a new role - wouldnt be more money, but another string to my bow so i said yes. I wouldnt be starting the role until they found a replacement for my 'old' job. Well.... its about 6 months on, and im still doing my 'old' job, but ive also started on the new one. apparently, they wont be replacing me. should i ask for more money, should i say i dont want to do it anymore?? any advice would be great
I think you should talk to your boss, just to clarify how this can work for you. The danger is if you simply accept the increased workload it will become your normal workload. It might be worth asking which elements of the old job you should drop because you don't have time to do them and the new stuff. Much depends on the relationship you have with your boss and whether you feel they are approachable. If they are not helpful, you may need to speak to someone else - HR if any such role exists in the firm, or your union rep.
my boss isnt really approachable - i suppose i could threaten to leave! unfortunately, we are a HR related section!! i just feel i will, as you say, end up with everything, and it gets done when i put myself under pressure - which is wrong. im not being big headed but because im capable, they take advantage
Put it to him in a fashion he has to agree with. "Excuse me boss but I assume you want me to carry out my new tasks to the best of my ability but it's difficult when I'm still doing my old job so you'll be sympathetic when the mistakes come in, won't you"Play him at his own game...make errors...ask for assistance...overtime...he''ll soon get the point.
