Hi, my freshly plastered and freshly painted ceiling is doing my head in!!!
Hi all, as it says above; I have recently had my hallway ceiling skimmed with plaster to hide the horrible artex that was there before. The problem I have is, I have painted and painted and painted the ceiling but can not get rid of the roller marks and shadows. The first coat of paint I used was a BASE COAT, I have since used a good quality paint on the numerous amount of coats that it has has since but I still have lines/shadows/mist and just looks generally horrible! Can anyone suggest what I've done wrong (if anything!) or how I can achieve a perfect, even coat of lovely white paint on my lovely flat ceiling??!!! Many thanks, Si

What I did was put up new plasterboard, seal it with artex sealer, coat it with Artex (not very highly relief pattern), seal it again, then roller coat it twice and a further coat with brush, and it's looking absolutely fabulous! My neck aches a bit now though!
Perhaps the paint is soaking in on your ceiling too much, a coat of the sealer may be the answer and then paint it again?

Hi simep, it sounds as if you may be putting on the paint too thinly, then you will see the lines of the roller. Try putting on a thicker coat of paint and try not to let the edges dry out. If it is drying out too quickly it may need sealing again first but shouldn't if you gave it good sealing. It often helps to put on one coat in one direction then put the second on from the other, ie from left to right then from the front to back. But make sure they are good coats and not thin ones.
Good luck.
